College & Career

As a part of HLHS’ programming, we are dedicated to ensuring students have every opportunity to succeed toward their post-secondary college and career goals. With a focus on dual credit, certification programs, and internships, we match students with classes and community partners to begin their tomorrow today.

Current and former students have participated in working towards their Associate’s Degree in both healthcare-related fields and other general and technical trade fields. We offer on-site CNM certification programs in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), First Responders (EMS), Community Health Workers (CHW), and Early Childhood Education (ECED), in which students earn both CNM credits as well as official certifications.

Additionally, we work with multiple community partners providing internships for hands-on learning and experience. As a recipient Innovation Zone grant and through our work with Future Focused Education, we are able to provide paid internships with many of our community partners.

Certification Programs

HLHS provides the following certification programs on-site for no cost. CNM instructors teach courses in our fully functional Simulation Lab so students do not have to travel off-site to participate in these programs. Our Sim Lab provides an authentic hospital environment including functional hospital beds, medical supplies and equipment, and simulation manikins.

Dual Credit

While all high schools in New Mexico are granted access to dual credit courses, navigating that process can be a barrier for students. HLHS provides one-on-one support with the dual credit process including enrollment, registration, and navigating the CNM online system. Our College & Career Coach will work with your student to ensure access to dual credit opportunities, help them create a plan for their long-term college and career goals, and assist them with course selection and registration.

Once enrolled at HLHS, we cover all dual credit expenses for students. We assess student readiness to ensure success in these courses and monitor students’ progress to protect their college GPA. Below is a list of programs/degrees of our current students’ declared interests:

Nursing
Medical Assistant
Pre-Health Sciences
Parametric
Biology

Cosmetology
Dental
Business
Criminology
Automotive
Welding

And many more!
