Educational
We provide educational opportunities to students that are innovative and geared toward life-long success in pursuit of their post-secondary life goals. This includes providing access to college dual credit programs, paid internships, hands-on learning in the community, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). Through a strongly-developed network of community partners, students are able to take what they learn and apply it through experiential learning and exposure to real-life situations and communities.
Emotional
Our Student Support staff provides opportunities for students to grow emotionally through trauma-informed care including programs like equine therapy, lunch groups, and restorative practices. We believe our students’ experiences impact their ability to learn, not their potential to learn. We focus on redirecting behavior through teaching students how to manage emotions, tolerate distress, and build mindfulness skills, which have been proven to be successful ways of increasing effectiveness in academic and non-academic settings.
Physical
Our new gymnasium provides students with opportunities to engage in our sports programs and be active before and after school and during lunch. Additionally, our fitness center provides students access to cardio equipment and weights to promote health through exercise. Additionally, our upcoming school-based health clinic will provide students access to free healthcare on-site at HLHS.
Recovery
Additionally, we provide credit recovery opportunities to help students reclaim their potential to thrive during their high school careers. At HLHS, we honor a student’s progress no matter where they begin when they enroll. Our mission is to ensure our students are equipped with the skills they need to become leaders in their own lives.
Re-engagement
Our re-engagement program provides students with the opportunity to complete their high school diploma in the evenings. This program allows students with full-time jobs and/or children the opportunity to attend in the evening. This program is family-friendly and we provide educational toys for young children.
